Florida Alimony Attorney and Child Support Lawyer
When a couple is divorcing, the primary wage earner will often ask "Will I need to pay alimony and child support?" Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. The only thing we can say for certain is that typically the payer thinks the amount is too much, and the payee thinks it is too little.
At Cohen & DePaul, we can help you in the determination of how much you will need to pay, or how much you might expect to receive for child support or spousal support. We represent either the husband or wife, or either the payer or payee, in divorce proceedings.

Child Support Payment Considerations
Child support is a calculation dictated by the state of Florida. It is mandated for a biological parent or adoptive parent and considers the following factors:
- The number of children
- The combined family net income
- Each parent's monthly obligations
- Monthly child care costs
- Monthly health insurance costs for the children
- Substantial time-sharing time (more than 40 percent)
The factors seem simple but are more complicated than they appear at first glance. We will work with you to determine the appropriate child support amount based on your timesharing agreement.
Spousal Support Considerations
Child support and spousal support are separate matters, and in Florida, a spousal support determination can vary greatly in amount, duration and timing. In general, the following factors are considered:
- The length of the marriage
- The couple's standard of living during the marriage
- The age and health of each spouse
- The income earning ability of each spouse
- Other sources of income for each party
